But why bother?

Let me be real: We need to shift from a culture of domination + obedience to one of curiosity + collaboration.

The beauty of upleveling our skills is that it ripples out to ALL realms of our lives—because it is the path of being fully human. Humanful.

The era of the dominating authority figure is in its last gasps. We know there’s a more interesting, more effective, more humanful way to lead, and we know it’s way past time we stepped up to embody this type of leadership: whether we’re leading a team, a family, a community, or ourselves.

But it takes awareness, new skills, and a whole lot o’ courage to lead from a stance of deep collaboration, partnership, and connection.

Domination takes zero skill. It doesn’t have to have any, it uses fear, authority, coercion, manipulation, and arbitrary systems of reward + punishment to get the job done. Those who still embody this outdated paradigm do so because they don’t yet have the awareness, skill, or courage to lead better. But you can.

You are meant to discover your signature leadership stance so you can connect with others from a real place—not from behind your masks.

Masks require conformity and erasure, which requires domination. Masks are a fertile breeding ground for isolation and imposter syndrome. This is disastrous.

We are all suffering the consequences of inauthenticity, in ourselves and in others. But it can be difficult to reveal our truest selves in cultures that love conformity.

Know this: in expressing your true nature, you set an example of possibility for others to do the same, and you feel the power and pleasure of connecting authentically with others, with yourself, and with the world. This is the basis for any safe, respectful relationship—and any workplace.

When the need of knowing yourself is met—a core human drive—you are able to connect from a place of collaboration, opportunity, and emergence—not homogenization.

Life becomes a pattern of choosing the pleasure of true leadership + connection rather than avoiding the pitfalls of inauthentic leadership + connection. This may seem like a nuance, but it matters.

Many good people self-select themselves out of leadership roles because being inauthentic feels awful—but being authentic in conformity culture has consequences.

And, many good people end up being mediocre leaders, or “alone at the top,” when they choose inauthenticity in order to fit into the old paradigm of leadership, rather than embodying what healthy leadership means for them. I offer a pathway out of this catch-22.

The journey of humanful leadership—of claiming your role as a creator of a healthy, human self who fosters the health and humanity of others—is not for you alone; this is for us all.

Why “humanful”?

I like to make up words. I am a gamechanger, after all. To me, when we are filled to overflowing with our own humanity—feeling empowered, aligned, in integrity, supported, connected, pursuing our passions and purpose in reciprocity with the world—we want nothing more than to share that with everyone and everything. Being full of the full spectrum of our humanity—humanful—inspires us to be generous, compassionate, vibrant, creative, curious—and I happen to think a world full of that would make this planet a more healthy + pleasureful place for everyone.
